Grow Old Along With Me

Robert Browning beautifully urged “grow old along with me…the best has yet to be.” He forgot to add sometimes the worst as well as with disease, poverty, loss of loved ones. But for now let’s concentrate on the good aspects of the urging.
I love it that I can watch a movie like TRUMBO and remember the black list and all it entailed in its poisonous compiling. I listened to the horrors of people mistrusting anyone who did not dream in red, white, and blue. It makes what is happening now all the more pressing. We don’t need more exclusion in our country.
I love having seen some of the great performers who are no longer with us…Olivier, Vivian Leigh, Margaret Leighton, Julie Harris,
Jason Robards….well the list is very long. I can say how potent
their magic was.
I love seeing my husband’s face with all its lines, and then my own in the mirror, and knowing the adventures we had acquiring these deep indentations.
Oh, that we could live forever without worrying about our money running out, our minds staying sharp and our feet carrying us along.
Oh, that Robert Browning could be here to smile too.

About christineemmert

Words have been part of my life. First the spoken word in my time as an actress and increasingly the written word in my shift to writer. I write across the genres, but mostly as a playwright and poet. My interest as my life extends is in the realm of tethering myth to the mundane reality where I live. In this vein I have expanded into stories and novels. Presently I look at how myths taken from past cultures can affect us today. Hence my novella of Lilith which is out on Kindle . I live in the Eastern Woodlands where I try to incorporate nature into my many writing projects. We are so in danger of losing that link to our very planet!
