Women and the West

It used to be that the West was considered Man’s Country. Women were part of the backdrop, but my recent trip westward made me think of the strong women that held down the farm and the homestead and the fort while the men were “off” doing those manly things. When I was much younger a man I knew told me I reminded him of a pioneer woman. I was insulted way back then because I
imagined some hatch faced lady with kids hanging off her being obedient to some John Wayne type. Now I see the wonder of the women in the west — all the women — and think there is nothing I would rather resemble than a female who found her voice and heart in the winds and sights of such a country.

About christineemmert

Words have been part of my life. First the spoken word in my time as an actress and increasingly the written word in my shift to writer. I write across the genres, but mostly as a playwright and poet. My interest as my life extends is in the realm of tethering myth to the mundane reality where I live. In this vein I have expanded into stories and novels. Presently I look at how myths taken from past cultures can affect us today. Hence my novella of Lilith which is out on Kindle . I live in the Eastern Woodlands where I try to incorporate nature into my many writing projects. We are so in danger of losing that link to our very planet!
