Living In a Casino

I had the surreal experience of attending a theatre conference held and housed in a casino in Atlantic City. Now who am I to put my nose in the air about gambling? I’ve dropped a few quarters in my time. That time was, however, a long while ago. Now I hold my
money closer.
Okay, I stayed in the hotel adjoining the world of vice. Several times a day I had to walk through a forest of slot machines, however, to get from place to place. It was a discouraging view of the world. People who looked as though they needed new clothes, dental help, etc. were standing there pouring money into the black holes of the machines. I saw a woman vomit on the red carpet there before eight in the morning. What’s it all about, Alfie? Someone asked me what day it was….and whether it was morning.
We want to control our planet….and we cannot control our greed.
If all the world’s a stage, I want mine set somewhere else than
a place where dreams die.

About christineemmert

Words have been part of my life. First the spoken word in my time as an actress and increasingly the written word in my shift to writer. I write across the genres, but mostly as a playwright and poet. My interest as my life extends is in the realm of tethering myth to the mundane reality where I live. In this vein I have expanded into stories and novels. Presently I look at how myths taken from past cultures can affect us today. Hence my novella of Lilith which is out on Kindle . I live in the Eastern Woodlands where I try to incorporate nature into my many writing projects. We are so in danger of losing that link to our very planet!
