Mudslides and Earthtones

I have a headache this morning from hearing about those killer mudslides of
Washington state. I was just thinking rain wasn’t a bad thing (especially when compared to drought or snow), but now we see a world a-wash in new miseries.
I used to think one was relatively safe in one’s house. Now I see the delicate
earth around can take malicious intent. Nature can be the cruellest enemy. Even after the gentle rains fall.
In my novella LILITH I made a barn owl menacing. In my novel THE NUN’S DRAGON a young child goes mushroom hunting and encounters a dragon who changes her life and moreso the lives of those around her. BUT I never used earth (that from which we grow) as killer.
Whatever we fear, and that which we write should be feared, can always be bested by reality.

About christineemmert

Words have been part of my life. First the spoken word in my time as an actress and increasingly the written word in my shift to writer. I write across the genres, but mostly as a playwright and poet. My interest as my life extends is in the realm of tethering myth to the mundane reality where I live. In this vein I have expanded into stories and novels. Presently I look at how myths taken from past cultures can affect us today. Hence my novella of Lilith which is out on Kindle . I live in the Eastern Woodlands where I try to incorporate nature into my many writing projects. We are so in danger of losing that link to our very planet!
