Coloring Santa

The latest news from FOX is that Santa is white and so is Jesus!
I cannot decide to laugh or cry. I’ve put my crayons away for years now. A green Santa or an orange Santa sounds most appealing. Why must everything look like the dominant idea of the time??

All those blue-eyed Jesus’ that people have may comfort them, but
it would be hard to pick the real Jesus (if indeed there was one!)
out of a lineup from those images.

A similacrum is a copy of something for which there is no first image. Santa is a similacrum. We can picture him anyway we please….or if he doesn’t please us (coal in the stocking, material greed, etc.) we have the right to color him plaid if we want.

Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanzaa and all the other celebrations need a whole palate of colors. Nothing is black or white….and neither is Santa.

About christineemmert

Words have been part of my life. First the spoken word in my time as an actress and increasingly the written word in my shift to writer. I write across the genres, but mostly as a playwright and poet. My interest as my life extends is in the realm of tethering myth to the mundane reality where I live. In this vein I have expanded into stories and novels. Presently I look at how myths taken from past cultures can affect us today. Hence my novella of Lilith which is out on Kindle . I live in the Eastern Woodlands where I try to incorporate nature into my many writing projects. We are so in danger of losing that link to our very planet!
