The Eyes of Texas

I must admit I have always found Texas a confusing state. It’s big , including many landscapes. Not just physical landscapes.
My son just moved to Austin which he swears is to Texas as Boulder is to Colorado. Never having been to Austin, I have to take his word.
However I wonder at a state that prides itself in the number of executions, bible thumping, and threats to secede.
Years ago I was in Dallas at a conference. I was amazed at the amount of sculpture in public places in the city. The museum there was something to make proud.
Are the eyes of Texas those eyes we wish to look into deeply? I would have to say at this moment in time I think not. Women’s Rights there are eroding. As a woman I might have to avert my eyes. Look elsewhere. Although for my son’s sake, I hope Austin is the glint in the eye that makes hope.

About christineemmert

Words have been part of my life. First the spoken word in my time as an actress and increasingly the written word in my shift to writer. I write across the genres, but mostly as a playwright and poet. My interest as my life extends is in the realm of tethering myth to the mundane reality where I live. In this vein I have expanded into stories and novels. Presently I look at how myths taken from past cultures can affect us today. Hence my novella of Lilith which is out on Kindle . I live in the Eastern Woodlands where I try to incorporate nature into my many writing projects. We are so in danger of losing that link to our very planet!
