I use the Tony awards as inspiration every year to try and achieve the level such talented performers create, even if my stages are smaller. However, in the last two years I have turned off my television with some disgust at the recycled overly shiny material with little behind it. Musicals that were films that are musicals.
I always loved the Broadway actors who worked with less fashion and more reality than their Hollywood counterparts. Now the mix has been done and it is interchangeable.
The theatre is my church where I am increasingly standing on the outside steps. Is it sour grapes with me? Or has Broadway morphed into something else where I do not wish to worship?
